Population Status and Evaluation of Stress Factors Influencing the See-See Partridge (Ammoperdix Griseogularis) in Killa Saifullah District, Balochistan

Abstract

The see-see partridge (Ammoperdix griseogularis) is a vulnerable bird species that inhabits arid, and semi-arid regions in the Middle East, and Central Asia, including Balochistan, Pakistan. The study focuses on the population dynamics, and major stress identification of the See-see partridge in Killa-Saifullah District, Balochistan. The area comprises four zones: Zone-1 ("Tanishpa"), Zone-2 “(Sharan Jogezai)”, Zone-3 ("Hamandzai and Meerzai mountainous area"), and Zone-4 ("Ghunda Mana"). Line transect surveys were conducted during morning and evening hours to estimate population densities in each zone. The results revealed diurnal variations in abundance, with higher densities observed during the evening hours. Zone-3, the "Hamandzai and Meerzai mountainous area. The study also highlighted human disturbances as the most significant stressor affecting the See-see Partridge population. Activities such as habitat destruction, pollution, hunting, and the introduction of non-native species can negatively impact the species and its habitat, posing threats to its survival. The outcomes of this research served as a basis for future conservation initiatives aimed at preserving the see-see partridge and its habitat in Killa Saifullah District, Balochistan, Pakistan.
