Abstract

Die Arbeit zeigt die Bedeutung des Entstehungskontextes für Datensätze auf und untersucht, welche Informationen für eine reflektierte und verantwortungsvolle Nutzung von Geodaten relevant sind. Dazu werden Dokumentations- und Reflexionsframeworks aus den Critical Data Studies sowie der Forschung zu Ethical AI und Maschinellem Lernen untersucht und in Bezug zum ISO-Standard für Metadaten geographischer Informationen gesetzt, da Kontextinformationen als Metadaten zur Verfügung gestellt werden können. Die Analyse offenbart zahlreiche Überschneidungen, aber auch inhaltliche Lücken und signifikante Unterschiede im Format der Frameworks und des Standards. Anhand der Open Source Anwendung Grätzlfarben werden die Metadaten von drei offenen Datensätzen, u.a. OSM, beispielhaft analysiert, um die Verfügbarkeit relevanter Kontextinformationen zu evaluieren. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass wesentliche Aspekte des Entstehungskontexts fehlen und dies den reflektierten Umgang mit Daten erschwert. Abschließend werden Potenziale und Bedarfe für die Integration und Weiterentwicklung von Kontextinformationen sowie deren Nutzbarmachung in Karten und GIS-Anwendungen skizziert.
