This document addresses the financial challenges students face when participating in the Erasmus+ programme, with a focus on grant delays and administrative inefficiencies. Drawing on survey data showing that over 54% of students receive their first grant instalment only after their mobility begins—and 42% attributing delays to their home universities—it highlights the critical need for timely and transparent scholarship disbursements. The document presents a series of actionable policy recommendations to streamline the Erasmus+ grant management system, ensure on-time payments, and enhance the programme's accessibility for all students. The Million of Erasmus Grants (MEGA) project aims to streamline the management of Erasmus + grants at the university level and develop a digital tool to ensure accurate and timely payment of grants to students, considering national and local contexts of Higher Education Institutions throughout the Erasmus grant process.
