BLUE_EP: A Dataset of Municipality-Level Results of European Parliament Elections

Authors: Hublet, François;

BLUE_EP: A Dataset of Municipality-Level Results of European Parliament Elections

Abstract

BLUE_EP is the first Europe-wide dataset of municipality-level results of European Parliament (EP) elections.Currently, BLUE_EP covers the 2019 and 2024 EP elections and provides results for approximately 90,000 spatial units in the EU27 and 500 parties or lists in each election. BLUE_EP’s spatial typology is based on the Eurostat’s Local Administrative Units (LAUs) extended to cover recently created municipalities, Overseas Countries and Territories (OCTs), postal vote, voting stations abroad, and special electoral districts used in the 4 member-states without LAU-level data (Greece, Ireland, Malta, Slovenia). This allows for seamless integration with Eurostat’s regional and local databases. All political parties in BLUE_EP are associated with their Party Facts identifiers (if any) and further classified by EP political groups and broader political families. The dataset was constructed by carefully collecting, harmonizing, and merging 27 national datasets.To cite this dataset:Hublet, F. (2024).
