The family is known from 90 genera and 1298 species (World Spider Catalog, 2024) and 22 genera and 97 species are listed from South Africa. However, species of three more genera Mallinella, Mastidiores and Microdiores still need to be described. Of these species, 67 (69%) are South African endemics, 22 (23%) are Southern African endemics and 8 (8%) African endemics. Fifty-six species have a wide distribution and are listed as Least Concern, while 31 are Data Deficient. Species of special concern include five Rare species, three Vulnerable species, and one Endangered. Nine of the South African genera have been revised.Part 1: deals with genera A to D (73 species).Part 2: deals with genera H to T (24 species) and provide a guide to all the South African genera.
