Zoolóquio: o que resta depois do Antropoceno?

Abstract

“Zoolóquio” (João Mologni, 2023) is a series of diptychs illustrating five different animal species that may come to exist in the next geological epoch, after the Anthropocene. In this series the animals themselves “speak” (zoo- “animal” and “-lóquio” to speak) about their and the planet’s evolutions when the consequences of human actions have come to a limit, provoking river eutrophication, mass extinction of fauna and flora, desertification, among others. Based on artworks by Patricia Piccinini and Joan Fontcuberta, the artist juxtaposes several existing characteristics of animals to imagine new species letting their own attributes, described in the textual part of each diptych, to construct a landscape of the future. Therefore, the present essay intends to outline Zoolóquio’s construction in order to promote reflections regarding how to imagine a better planet as well.
