Abstract

This paper presents the artistic process of creating a series of twenty prints on alternative material depicting exotic species of flowers from the Atlantic Forest. The high rates of endangered plant and animal species highlight the Atlantic Forest proportionally compared to other Brazilian biomes. Engraving exotic plants goes against this path of nature devastation. Engraving means immortalizing something, and therefore, immortalizing these plant drawings in prints seeks to reproduce and disseminate the most intimate and rare beauties of this biome. First, twenty images of plants were chosen through photographs available on the internet. Then, the process moved on to drawing directly on the matrix. Subsequently, the engraving was done with gouges. And finally, the printing phase. However, beyond the ecological appeal of botanical-artistic preservation and dissemination, this article presents an alternative material for the wood carving block: neolite.
