ROMSPath with time-invariant circulation field option

Abstract

This repository contains files related to the manuscript "A case study in the use of ocean circulation and particle-tracking models to quantify connectivity among Marine Protected Areas in Canadian Atlantic waters" sumbitted to Frontiers in Marine Science. 1. ROMSPATH: Files related to the numerical particle-tracking model ROMSPath (Hunter et al., 2022). The version here has been modified to allow the use of time-invariant circulation (hydrodynamic) fields. The line `#CPPFLAGS =-DUPDATE_HYDRO` be in makefile should be uncommented if time-varying circulation fields are to be used. Please see the developers' documentation (README.md and ROMSPATH_MANUAL.docx) for more details. 2. ROMS_OUTPUT: Output files of the numerical ocean-circulation model ROMS from a simulation in which it was coupled to the sea ice model CICE. The simulation was initialized 1 September 2013. Here the daily-mean model output has been averaged into seasonal means. The file names are of the format roms_avg_[yyyymmdd]_[yyyymmdd].nc where the two dates are the starting and ending dates of the averaging period. These files were inputs for particle-tracking experiments using ROMSPath. 3. ROMSPATH_OUTPUT: Output files of numerical particle-tracking experiments using ROMSPath. The subdirectories BDA and SAB contain, respectively, files for experiments in which particles were released from the Banc-des-Americains and Saint Anns Bank Marine Protected Areas. Each of these subdirectories contain 16 subdirectories (4 seasons for each of the years 2015-2018). Each of the 16 subdirectories contain: 1. ROMSPath.data: Namelist (runtime parameter) file 2. ROMSPath.exe: Executable file 3. ROMSPath_out_ ... [yyyymmdd]_[yyyymmdd].nc: Output file 4. init_part_ ... .csv: Initial particle position file 5. romspath_ ... .err & .log: Error message & log files 6. submit_romspath.sh: Script to submit job to an HPC cluster.
