In 1971, Oduvaldo Vianna Filho played the protagonist of Um homem sem importância, a movie directed by Alberto Salvá. In the most repressive period of the Brazilian military dictatorship, through a convergence with critical realism, the feature film presented the story of an unemployed man dealing with the collapse of his desires. With the intention of reaching a wide audience, Salvá materialized on screen the violence and idealistic crises experienced by the popular class during the conservative modernization that took place in Brazil in the 1970s. By acting in the movie, Vianinha became involved with an artistic work that dealt with issues similar to the plays and scripts he wrote during the dictatorship. In an unexpected way, the feature film and Vianinha’s dramaturgical work converged as a repudiation of authoritarianism and a celebration of the bonds of solidarity belonging to the popular class.
