
Abstract Since its inception, the scientific tradition that has developed in the pesantren is Sufistic Islamic scholarship. There are at least two major waves that affect the style of scholarship above, including the role of the Wali Songo, all of whom are Sufistic in spirit and the kyai after returning from their stay in the Hijaz land of Mecca, bringing the teachings of Sufism (Tarekat), so that the existence of pesantren is not separated from Sufistic studies. This study uses the paradigm of post-positivism, a point of view that recognizes objective reality, but its understanding cannot be perfect and contains all possibilities. The approach used is phenomenological with the type of qualitative research. The results showed that implementing the developed Sufistic values and preserving the five souls (five souls) also carried out dhikr, istiqamah and riyadlah. The development of Sufism through dhikr can be beneficial and less profitable. The profitable dhikr occurred at the Pesantren al-Qodiri and the unprofitable dhikr at the Pesantren Darul Maghfur. The contribution of Sufism through dhikr to the development of pesantren education can contribute internally including ethical, moral and physical development and external contributions include the establishment of a network of alumni and congregations of dhikr. Tradisi keilmuan yang berkembang di pesantren sejak awal didirikan adalah keilmuan yang bercorak Islam Sufistik. Sedikitnya ada dua gelombang besar yang mempengaruhi corak keilmuan di atas, diantaranya adalah peran wali songo yang kesemuanya berjiwa sufistik dan para kyai sepulangnya dari mondok di tanah Hijaz Makkah membawa ajaran tasawuf (tarekat), sehingga keberadaan pesantren tidak terpisah dengan kajian-kajian sufistik. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma post-positivisme, sebuah sudut pandang yang mengakui tentang realitas obyektif, akan tetapi pengertiannya tidak dapat secara sempurna dan mengandung serba kemungkinan. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah fenomenologis degan jenis penelitian kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa implementasi nilai-nilai sufistik yang dikembangkan selain melestarikan lima jiwa (panca jiwa) juga dengan berdzikir, istiqamah dan riyadlah. Pengembangan tasawuf melalui dzikir dapat berfek menguntungkan dan kurang menguntungkan. Dzikir yang menguntungkan terjadi di Pesantren al-Qodiri, dan dzikir yang tidak menguntungkan di Pesantren Darul Maghfur. Kontribusi tasawuf melalui dzikir terhadap pengembangan pendidikan pesantren dapat berkontribusi secara internal meliputi etik, moral dan pengembangan fisik dan kontrubusi eksternal meliputi terbangunnya jaringan alumni dan jama’ah dzikir.
