Abstract

ABSTRACT Emerging technologies are a timely alternative to improve learning, as in the case of English language teaching. This area requires a lot of creativity and gamification on the part of teachers. In this sense, AI and chatbots are healthy alternatives to be used. However, this reality does not exempt the teacher from providing guidelines for prudent use based on ethical principles when incorporating these tools in pedagogical practice. It is along these lines that we proposed in this research to describe the use of chatbots in language learning through a systematic review. The methodology consisted of consulting the academic literature of the last five years through the qualitative route of bibliographic review; the Scopus, Proquest and Web of Science databases were used. The interpretation of the scientific articles consulted led to the conclusion that AI and the use of chatbots are powerful tools that help improve English language comprehension.
