This article discusses the notion of mental health, its roots, some implicit assumptions in its definitions, and its uses. Mental health is understood as a diffused disciplinary area to which converge medicine, public health, diverse psychologies and socio-political approaches. Mental health may be also understood as a condition or state that can be easily instrumentalized. Considering this risk, it becomes relevant to analyse advantages and disadvantages of the notion of mental health itself.
En el artículo se discute la noción de salud mental, sus raíces, algunos supuestos implícitos en sus definiciones, y sus usos.
