Abstract

Abstract AltMetrics, Alternative Metriken & Social Media Impact In seinem Vortrag „AltMetrics, Alternative Metriken & Social Media Impact“, gehalten am 13. Dezember 2013 in Salzburg, beleuchtet Dr. Ulrich Herb die Möglichkeiten und Grenzen alternativer Metriken zur Messung des wissenschaftlichen Impacts. AltMetrics bieten im Vergleich zu traditionellen Zitiermetriken wie dem Journal Impact Factor (JIF) oder dem h-Index neue Ansätze zur Bewertung von Forschungsleistung, insbesondere durch die Analyse von Social-Media-Aktivitäten und Nutzungsdaten. Der Vortrag diskutiert die Stärken von AltMetrics, darunter Offenheit in Bezug auf Datenquellen und Messobjekte sowie die Berücksichtigung nicht-traditioneller Forschungsoutputs wie Forschungsdaten und Software. Gleichzeitig wird auf Herausforderungen wie Manipulierbarkeit, fachliche Verzerrungen und die fehlende Standardisierung hingewiesen. Abschließend argumentiert Dr. Herb, dass AltMetrics eine wertvolle Ergänzung zu bestehenden Metriken darstellen können, jedoch nicht frei von methodischen und theoretischen Schwächen sind. Die Bewertung wissenschaftlicher Leistung sollte daher nicht allein auf AltMetrics oder traditionellen Metriken basieren, sondern eine Kombination verschiedener Ansätze nutzen.
