Abstract

Abstract Predatory Publishing & Open Access: Verdirbt Geld die Wissenschaftskommunikation? In seinem Vortrag „Predatory Publishing & Open Access: Verdirbt Geld die Wissenschaftskommunikation?“, gehalten am 18. März 2014 auf der 78. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Physikalischen Gesellschaft (DPG) in Berlin, untersucht Dr. Ulrich Herb die Herausforderungen durch unseriöse Praktiken im Open-Access-Publishing. Er beleuchtet den Einfluss von Article Processing Charges (APCs) auf die Qualitätssicherung und thematisiert das Problem sogenannter „Predatory Journals“, die fragwürdige Geschäftsmodelle betreiben. Ein zentraler Punkt ist die Analyse des „Open Access Sting“ von John Bohannon, der Schwächen in der Qualitätssicherung vieler Open-Access-Journale aufdeckte. Dr. Herb zieht Vergleiche mit Qualitätsmängeln im Closed Access und stellt dar, wie finanzielle Anreize und die sogenannte „Tonnenideologie“ die wissenschaftliche Kommunikation beeinflussen. Als Lösungsansätze schlägt er Investitionen in gemeinnützige Publikationsinfrastrukturen, Open Review, sowie die Etablierung von Whitelists und Transparency-Indizes vor. Der Vortrag plädiert für einen verantwortungsvollen Umgang mit Open Access, der Transparenz und wissenschaftliche Integrität sicherstellt.
