Mehr finden - weniger suchen. Wie Normdaten den Unterschied machen

Abstract

As part of this two-year research project to determine how the targeted use of authority data in the cataloguing of museum object indexing to optimize the findability of museum objects in the German Digital Library can be optimized. The research project was characterized above all by the fact that it could start directly at the data source itself: the collection in the museum. One added value of this project was that through the close collaboration with the museum desk and other relevant players of the German Digital Library research results could directly contribute to the further development of the portal. The main results of the research project are set out in this paper. The core of the research project is a detailed symptom and cause analysis: It is analysed how certain types of search in the German Digital Library are impaired and to which limiting factors this can be attributed. Building on this, the main levers will then be identified and solution approaches developed to optimise the information retrieval for museum object in the portal by making better use of authority files and controlled vocabulary.
