Abstract

El estudio se centra en el aprovechamiento de los residuos orgánicos, específicamente lascáscaras de naranja, que representan el 61 % de los desechos generados en Colombia, y supotencial para producir bioetanol como biocombustible sostenible. Su propósito es analizar laobtención de este mediante la fermentación de jarabes glucosados obtenidos por hidrólisisquímica de las cáscaras, optimizando los tiempos del proceso con ácido clorhídrico comocatalizador.Se analizaron diferentes concentraciones de ácido clorhídrico (HCl), determinando que unaconcentración intermedia (6 %) permite una óptima liberación de azúcares sin degradarcomponentes esenciales. Posteriormente, se realizó un seguimiento cinético del consumo deazúcares utilizando levadura comercial, ajustando variables como agitación, pH y temperatura.La eliminación de lignina fue clave para acelerar la fermentación y aumentar la eficiencia en laobtención de alcohol.Las cáscaras de naranja son una biomasa prometedora para producir bioetanol, aunque suindustrialización presenta obstáculos como los elevados costos de producción y ladisponibilidad de otras fuentes de materia prima. Optimizar la hidrólisis y fermentación es clavepara mejorar su viabilidad en una economía sostenible.
