De la desestigmatización a la aceptación: Estudio intergeneracional del estigma en Salud Mental

Abstract

INTRODUCCIÓN Y OBJETIVOS: Este estudio evalúa cómo el estigma hacia la salud mental varía entre generaciones, planteando que los jóvenes presentan menores niveles de estigmatización debido a movimientos de concienciación. Además, se analizan variables sociodemográficas que pueden influir en las actitudes hacia la salud mental. MATERIAL Y MÉTODOS: Se realizó un estudio descriptivo transversal con 207 sujetos de diversas edades: 17 entre 18-25 años, 63 entre 26-35, 43 entre 36-50 y 84 entre 51-65 años. Se utilizó la escala CAMI-S para medir el estigma y un cuestionario sociodemográfico propio. Ambos se administraron mediante la aplicación FORMS y fueron distribuidos por redes sociales. Se calcularon la media y desviación estándar en las dimensiones de «Integración y contacto», «Distancia social», «Peligrosidad y evitación», y Estigma global. RESULTADOS: La media global del estigma fue 13.86 (DE 3.4), observándose diferencias significativas entre los grupos de edad. El grupo de 51-65 años mostró la media de estigma más alta (18.7), frente a los demás grupos. No hubo diferencias significativas entre hombres y mujeres. Las personas solamente con estudios primarios presentaron mayor estigma (19.38) que aquellas con estudios secundarios (17.89) y superiores (12.7). Los profesionales del ámbito sanitario mostraron menos estigma (11.2), siendo más bajo en aquellos que trabajan en salud mental (7.57). CONCLUSIONES: Se observaron puntuaciones globales favorables hacia el "antiestigma" entre personas más jóvenes. Además, se encontró que niveles más altos de educación se asociaron con resultados aún más favorables en este sentido. Estos hallazgos sugieren que los movimientos contemporáneos de concienciación y aceptación están teniendo un impacto positivo en la reducción del estigma hacia la salud mental, especialmente entre las generaciones más jóvenes.
