
Mild to severe memory impairments can lead to neurodegenerative illnesses and/or brain damage. Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by the degeneration of neurons and is incurable. This study aimed to investigate the memory-enhancing potential of an Ayurvedic polyherbal formulation (PHF) in experimental animal models of memory loss caused by streptozotocin. Three plant extracts— Adoxa moschatellina, Alpinia galanga, Laurus nobilis along with other excipients were suspended in a polyherbal formulation (PHF). The effectiveness of polyherbal formulation (PHF) in the learning and memory processes of animals was assessed using a variety of behavioral animal models, including the Morris water maze (MWM) test, the Elevated plus maze (EPM) test, the Pole Climbing Test (PCT), and the Social Recognition Test (SRT). The results showed that the PHF injection considerably (P<0.01) shortened the duration of social recognition during trial 2 (SIT2). PHF medication considerably (P<0.01) decreased the [F (4, 20) = 6.9] delay to reach the concealed platform from session 3 in the MWM (Morris Water Maze) test. In a similar way, PHF proved successful in the EPM (Elevated Plus Maze) and pole climbing tests. According to RT-PCR data, p53 controls the expression of the Bcl-2 family of proteins, which was significantly lower in PHF (200 mg/kg) in the particular experiment. The proteins GAP-43, NR1, and NR2B reduce the damage to brain cells. PHF may therefore be a useful formulation for the learning and memory process in order to counteract the memory impairment caused by STZ.
