Abstract

A Revision of Ruehssia H.Karst. (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadoideae) for the Flora of Colombia Abstract: A taxonomic study of the genus Ruehssia H. Karst. (Asclepiadoideae, Asclepiadeae, Marsdeniae) for Colombia, based on the morphological study of herbarium specimens and live plants has been performed, using traditional taxonomic techniques, and complemented with information available in literature and specialized digital sites. As part of the taxonomic treatment 15 species are described, one of them (Ruehssia silverstonei Morillo) proposed as new to science, and a key to the species and illustrations for them are included. Moreover, information on nomenclature, morphology, distribution, and ecology of the species recognized for Colombia is added. An integration of these results allow to conclude that for the area under study there are three narrow endemic species of Ruehssia, three especies limited to Colombia and Venezuela, two species distributed between Colombia and Costa Rica, one species shared between southwest Colombia and northern Ecuador and Perú, a disjoint species between Colombia and Bolivia, a north-amazonian species shared between Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela, and four wide spread species in South America.
