Tlaloc Álvarez & Carranza 1951 is a genus of Middle American Killifishes of the Family Profundulidae, with a distribution that extends from the southern Mexican state of Chiapas to the upper reaches of the Patuca River in the Department of Francisco Morazán, in Central Honduras (Fig. 1A; herein). In its northern most boundaries, Tlaloc species are found in the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and the Chiapas Central Highlands in Chiapas. In Honduras and Guatemala species of Tlaloc are found in the Cordillera Centroamericana. Until recently, the four valid members of Tlaloc were placed in the genus Profundulus Hubbs 1924. However, molecular phylogenetic analysis (see Morcillo et al. 2016) and osteological evidence (see González-Díaz et al. 2014) suggested that all members of the Profundulus labialis (Günther 1866) species complex were divergent enough from their congeners of the Profundulus punctatus (Günther 1866) species complex and the authors proposed that these two species complex should be separate genera.
