Abstract

Gustav Friedrich Hertzberg ist vor allem als Regional- und Stadthistoriker der Stadt Halle (Saale) hervorgetreten. Er verfasste mehrere Werke zur Universitäts- und Stadtgeschichte, über Persönlichkeiten der Stadt und die Freimaurerloge "Zu den drei Degen" sowie vielen weiteren Themen. Zudem engagierte er sich in regionalen Geschichtsvereinen. Beruflich bekleidete Hertzberg eine apl. Professur an der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg und verfasste mehrere Werke zur byzantinischen und römischen Geschichte.

Gustav Friedrich Hertzberg is best known as a regional and urban historian of the city of Halle (Saale). He wrote several works on the history of the university and the city, on personalities of the city and the Masonic Lodge ‘Zu den drei Degen’ (The Three Swordsmen), as well as on many other topics. He was also involved in regional historical societies. Hertzberg held an adjunct professorship at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and wrote several works on Byzantine and Roman history.
