GOA-ON in a Box kit list

Abstract

In 2016, The Ocean Foundation worked with international bodies and subject matter experts to develop a set of equipment known as the “GOA-ON in a Box” kit. This comprehensive kit provides researchers with everything needed (down to the specialized rubber bands) to obtain weather-quality ocean acidification data through fieldwork and laboratory analyses. The spreadsheet linked below is regularly updated with items included in the kit, their cost, and supplier options. GOA-ON in a Box kit list: The Ocean Foundation maintains the list of items included in the GOA-ON in a Box kit and a short description of the item’s usage. Click the hyperlink of each item to visit the supplier’s website and learn more. Manufacturer user guides and specification sheets: User guides and information about particular pieces of equipment from the manufacturers are compiled here. Safety Data Sheets: Information from manufacturers on how to safely use and dispose of chemicals. Electricity guidance: Items are purchased from U.S. suppliers and typically have type B plugs and accept 120v. This table describes which electrical items must be plugged into the included power transformer or can accept 240v when an adapter is used. Instructional videos: The Ocean Foundation and Dr. Chris Sabine created a set of four videos that show and describe the methodology for collecting water samples, measuring total alkalinity and spectrophotometric pH, and using reference materials. These have captions in four languages: English, Spanish, Portuguese, and French. There are additional videos in English with guidance on setting up and using specific components of the kit. Practical Best Practices: This includes a set of guides for field sampling, laboratory measurements, reference material correction, and submission to the SDG 14.3.1 data portal. iSAMI guides: Guidance from the iSAMI manufacturer, Sunburst Sensors, on iSAMI maintenance and repair. Data Submission: The Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission is the steward of SDG 14.3.1 to collect ocean acidification data around the globe. View the data submission portal and FAQ here and watch an informational webinar here. The datasheet and metadata templates are linked here.
