Equipment used for X-ray Diffraction and Visible and Near Infrared and Short Wavelength Infrared (VNIR-SWIR) are placed at Nucleus Central Services (University of Salamanca). X-ray Diffraction data were collected by using a Bruker D8 Advance ECO. Analyses were performed by using a Cu anode (Cu-Kα 1.54Å; 25mA, 40 KV) as X-ray source. Sample preparation and measurement conditions varied as a function of the samples and the required information. Collected data were processed by using the EVA Diffract software. Raw samples XRD: As samples provided by AURUM were already powdered, sample preparation consisted into fill the sample holder. All the measurements (189 samples) were performed from 3 to 65 (2-Theta degrees) with a scan speed of 0.05˚/min. <2microns XRD: 29 representative samples of soils were selected to perform powder diffraction analyses of the minor than 2 microns fraction obtained from an aqueous suspension. This method consists into place a few drops of the <2µm fraction suspension on a glass surface and record 3 diffraction patterns under different conditions:1) Room temperature conditions, 2) after solvation with ethyleneglycol, and 3) after 2h at 550ºC heat treatment. Comparison of recorded patterns after these three conditions make it possible to differentiate between different clay minerals. These measurements were collected from 3 to 40 (2-Theta degrees) with a scan speed of 0.05˚/min. Spectral library: 904 samples were mounted in a similar way than XRD-Raw measurements. To collect the VNIR-SWIR spectra, measurements were done by using an ASD FieldSpec® 4 Hi-Res. For white reference calibration, a Spectralon® panel was used. Data collected was processed by using ViewSpecPro and Spectragryph softwares.
The Mineralogical characterization entry from USAL team consists of different folders in which it is possible to find raw data results from different analytical techniques. All the samples come from Aramo site and were collected by AURUM partner, who sent us. Each sample has been labeled consistently across all techniques, using the original sample name with a prefix indicating its origin: 'SUP' for surface rock and soil samples, and 'MIN' for underground mine samples. The name of the different folders indicates the technique used in each case. The included folders are: - VNIR-SWIR: For opening these files, ViewSpecPro, Spectragryph, OPUS, among other software for spectroscopy can be used; here you will find three subfolders. o Raw data folder contains 904 Visible and Near Infrared (VNIR) and Short Wavelength Infrared (SWIR) spectra. Each measurement can be found in *.asd format. - XRD folder: Files are in *.raw format and they can be opened with common software for powder diffraction (EVA Diffract or High Score Plus, among many others); here you will find two subfolders: o Raw samples XRD: this folder contains 189 files corresponding to the X-ray diffraction patterns obtained from original samples. o <2microns XRD-: this folder contains 87 files corresponding to the XRD-paterns of minor than 2 microns fraction of 29 representative samples studied as oriented aggregate (OA -sufix), solvated with ethylenglycol (EG -sufix) and after 2h at 550ºC (550-sufix).
