In difesa dello Spirito Santo.

Abstract

The essay proposes a reading of Didymus the Blind’s De Spiritu Sancto, highlighting the following aspects of its pneumatology: the apologetic style, the biblical setting, the Trinitarian dimension, and the concept of participation (capabilitas), useful for explaining the relation between the Spirit and the creatures, whilst maintaining at the same time the ontological difference between them. Thereby the treatise, written during the pneumatological controversies before the Council of Constantinople (381), represents a significant stage in the development in Pneumatology in the 4th century.
