Data Repository: Cryptic degassing and protracted greenhouse climates after flood basalt events

Abstract

Ref: Black et al. Cryptic degassing and protracted greenhouse climates after flood basalt events Model inputs and outputs associated with this work including co-eruptive and cryptic degassing fluxes and SCION outputs. The model codes are available as follows: The ASPECT geodynamic model can be downloaded at https://aspect.geodynamics.org . The SCION model is freely available at https://github.com/bjwmills/SCION . The 1d diffusion model used to model magmatically induced crustal rheological shifts is freely available at https://github.com/leifkarlstrom/reverse_energy_cascade. File descriptions are provided below and in the readme. carbon_melt_envelopes.txt CO2 and melt generation envelopes generated from ASPECT geodynamic modeling of plume melting. CO2 envelope is used as an input to SCION representing potential cryptic degassing. Columns (also indicated in header of file) are:# 1: Time (Myr)# 2: MIN Carbon flux (mol/yr)# 3: MAX Carbon Flux (mol/yr)# 4: MIN Melt flux (km3/yr)# 5: MAX Melt flux (km3/yr) SCION_cryptic_degassing.mat A MATLAB file repository with individual SCION runs for a range of LIP eruptive and non-eruptive degassing scenarios as shown in Fig. 2 of Black et al. File names are [LIP degassing rate choice]_[cryptic degassing rate choice] and the variables you want are 'time_myr' for time and 'tempC' for global avg surface temp and 'SAT_tropical' for tropical surface air temperature (for the PTME comparison). Python can read these files too. SCION_null.mat A MATLAB file repository with the null SCION run, including LIP weathering but no LIP CO2 release. Table S1 - Degassing reconstructions.xlsx Spreadsheet containing estimated co-eruptive CO2 fluxes for a range of scenarios for the Siberian Traps, Deccan Traps, NAIP, Ethiopian Traps, and CRB: volcanic CO2, intrusive + volcanic CO2 for specified intrusive:extrusive ratios, and for the Siberian Traps and NAIP, metamorphic + intrusive + volcanic CO2. Table S2 - Climate patterns after LIPs.docx Table summarizing climate patterns after Phanerozoic continental LIPs for which data are available.
