La episiotomía es un procedimiento obstétrico que involucra la incisión quirúrgica del periné para ayudar al paso del feto a través del canal del parto Propuso por primera vez el uso de la episiotomía un matrón irlandés, Sir Fielding Ould en 1742. Es importante reflexionar sobre la aplicación de prácticas en el manejo del parto que, aunque pueden ser esenciales en situaciones específicas, no deben realizarse de forma rutinaria.
