California'S Drought Of The Future: A Prospective Look At The 2012-2017 Drought

Abstract

This is the regrided datasets for the "California’s Drought of the Future: A Prospective Look at the 2012-2017 Drought" paper submitted to the Earth's Future. If you have any question, please contact Zexuan Xu (zexuanxu@lbl.gov) or Paul Ullrich (paullrich@ucdavis.edu) 1) Data Inventory: WRF9_HIST_CLM_dailyavg.nc: Daily average historical simulation outputs from June 1, 2012 to September 30, 2017 WRF9_PROJ_CLM_dailyavg.nc: Daily average projection simulation outputs from June 1, 2042 to September 30, 2047 WRF9_STATIC.nc: Some static variables, including PHIS, LU_INDEX, VEGFRA, XLAT, XLON and ALBBCK. All datasets are regrided to 1/12 degree (~ 9km), within from 32.5 N to 42 N in latitude (115 cells in north-south), and 124.5 W to 114.5 W in longitude (121 cells in east-west). 2) Variables The WRF output variable names are used here, which are different from the CESM/CLM standard output variable names. For a complete list of WRF output variables, please refer to: http://www2.mmm.ucar.edu/wrf/users/docs/user_guide_V3.8/users_guide_chap5.htm A short list of variable names: ALBEDO: Albedo ALBBCK: Background albedo EMISS: Surface emissivity GLW: Downward long wave flux at ground surface (W m-2) GRDFLX: Ground heat flux (W m-2) HFX: Upward heat flux at the surface (W m-2) LH: Latent heat flux at the surface (W m-2) LU_INDEX: Land use category PHIS: Terrain height (m) PRECT: Total precipitation (mm/day) PSFC: SFC pressure (Pa) Q2: QV at 2-meter surface (kg kg-1) QFX: Upward moisture flux at the surface (mm/day) PRECT: Total precipitation (mm/day) SFROFF: Surface runoff (mm/day) SNOW: Snow water equivalent (mm) SNOWNC: Snowfall, total grid scale snow and ice (mm/day) SMOIS: Soil moisture (m3 m-3) SMOIS_TOP: Soil moisture on the top layer (m3 m-3) SWDOWN: Downward short wave flux at ground surface (W m-2) TSK: Surface skin temperature (K) T2: Daily average two-meter surface temperature (K) T2D: Daily average tw-meter dew point temperature (K) T2MAX: Daily maximum two-meter surface temperature (K) T2MIN: Daily minimum two-meter surface temperature (K) U10: U at 10 m (m s-1) V10: V at 10 m (m s-1) VEGFRA: Vegetation fraction XLAT: latitude, south is negative (degree_north) XLONG: longitude, west is negative (degree_east)
