Queerbaiting e conservadorismo no universo geek: uma análise dos quadrinhos da Marvel

Abstract

Seja através do beijo gay de Hulkling e Wiccano (Marvel/2019) e da bissexualidade de Jon Kent (DC Comics/2021), vivemos atualmente um momento no qual, através das histórias em quadrinhos, tem se discutido sobre os limites da representatividade LGBTQIA+. No caso específico dos quadrinhos, os personagens LGBTQIA+ não são recentes. Contudo, grande parte dessas menções estavam escondidas por trás do queerbaiting. O queerbaiting pode ser definido como uma estratégia de marketing na qual há uma sugestão, porém não explícita, de que um personagem é LGBTQIA+. No caso das histórias em quadrinhos, essa “isca” funciona como uma forma de atrair o público LGBTQIA+ sem perder o público conservador. Nesse artigo, entenderemos como público conservador aqueles que sigam o padrão da cis-heteronormatividade. Dessa forma, a proposta do artigo é discutir como tais questões têm se apresentado especificamente no contexto dos personagens da Marvel Comics.
