To evaluate & compare the antioxidant and antibacterial activity of ethanolic extract of Coleus amboinicus and Coleus blumei leaves. The ethanoic extract of Coleus amboinicus and Coleus blumei leaves was prepared by maceration and were screened for the presence of various phytochemical constituents. The antioxidant activity of ethanolic extract of Coleus amboinicus and Coleus blumei leaves was determined by Hydroxyl radical scavenging assay, Nitric oxide radical scavenging assay and H2O2 radical scavenging assay. And the antibacterial activity was evaluated by Agar well diffusion method for determining mean diameter of inhibition zone and Broth dilution method for determining minimum inhibitory concentration. The results showed that direct crude extract of Coleus amboinicus having good antioxidant activity than Coleus blumei. And it is also having antibacterial activity against the gram-positive bacteria Streptococcus pneumoniae than the gram- negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa. But whereas, Coleus blumei shows less antibacterial activity towards the both bacteria. Coleus amboinicus showed better antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity and this justifies its better use in ethnomedicine.
