Abstract

Mots clés : Système nerveux végétatif, système nerveux orthosympathique etparasympathique, ostéopathie Introduction : The autonomic nervous system is an important target for anyosteopathic treatment because of its role as a regulator of homeostasis. Thanks to itssympathetic and parasympathetic branches, opposite but complementary, it directs themajor autonomic functions of the organism. Different osteopathic techniques aretherefore taught and practiced considering that they act on the autonomic nervoussystem. But can we really say, with current scientific data, that osteopathy affects theautonomic nervous system? Objective : This end-of-studies essay aims to gather all of the recent scientificliterature studying the impact of osteopathy on the autonomic nervous system.Form of study : Literature reviewMaterial and method : Researches were conducted from September 2022 to January2023 on databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Cairn Info and many others usingMeSH keywords and free terms. Results : Out of the 24 studies analyzed, 20 obtained a significant effect of osteopathyon the autonomic nervous system compared to the placebo or control group. Thescientific quality of the articles is overall good. However, the heterogeneity of thetechniques performed and the parameters measured does not allow a statisticalanalysis.Discussion and conclusion : This research still makes it possible to answer positivelythe initial problematic. Although more extensive multicenter studies and largersamples would be helpful to support these results. Keywords : Autonomic Nervous System, Sympathetic/Parasympathetic NervousSystem, OMT
