Fibres et teintures végétales: petit historique de leurs usages

Abstract

Préservées uniquement lorsque des conditions particulières le permettent, les fibres végétales forment une matière souple, très importante pour de nombreux usages dès le Paléolithique. Les teintures, d’abord minérales comme l’ocre rouge – la couleur de la vie –, plus tard aussi d’origine végétale, leur ajoutent une touche à la fois vivante et très symbolique. Pflanzenfasern und -farbstoffe: eine kurze Geschichte ihrer Verwendung Bis in die Bronzezeit bilden in Europa Pflanzenfasern den einzigen verfügbaren Rohstoff für die Herstellung von Textilien. Sie werden aus den Stämmen von Laubbäumen oder aus Flachs gewonnen. Hanf gelangt ab der Eisenzeit aus dem Osten nach Europa und ab der Römerzeit wird mit zunehmendem Kontakt zu anderen Regionen die Auswahl an Pflanzen immer grösser. Als in der Bronzezeit die helle Wolle aufkommt und die Farbe sehr schnell zu einem wichtigen Faktor bei der Herstellung von Kleidung wird, gewinnen die zum Färben benötigten Pflanzen schnell an Bedeutung. Fibre e tinture vegetali: breve storia dei loro utilizzi Fino all’età del Bronzo, in Europa le fibre vegetali erano l’unica materia prima disponibile per la produzione di tessuti e potevano essere tratte da tronchi di legno di latifoglie o dal lino. A partire dall’età del Ferro arrivò la canapa dall’Oriente e, con lo sviluppo di contatti ad ampio raggio – a partire dall’epoca romana – la scelta delle piante si ampliò. I vegetali utilizzati per la tintura sono molto diffusi a partire dall’età del Bronzo, quando fa la sua comparsa la lana chiara e il colore diventa rapidamente un elemento importante nella creazione degli abiti.
