Angola`s border with Congo is large (2511 Km) and historical relationship strong. In fact, central lands of the ancient Kingdom of Congo (Kongo dya Ntotila) were established in today`s Angola and Congo. Thus, is not difficult to foresee the immense interaction that happened throughout the years between these two countries. The scope of this paper is to analyse the strange relation that developed between Congo and Angola, since the assassination of Congo`s President of the Republic in 2001, Laurent-Désiré Kabila, till the present. It focusses on the apparent “renversement des alliances” regarding his son Joseph Kabila and Angola. Angola, due to internal security reasons, intervened in both the so called- First Congo War and Second Congo War, that served to overthrow Mobutu and allow the accession of Laurent-Désiré Kabila. Therefore, Angola acted as an ally of Kabila. However, some authors argue, that Angola has had an indirect or even direct role on the posterior assassination of Laurent-Desiré Kabila in 2001. Meanwhile, Kabila was succeeded by his son Joseph Kabila. He is President since 2001.After that, Angola usually provided fundamental support for Kabila, and was a strong ally of RDC leadership. Nevertheless, most recently Angola appears to be in a process of policy change. Supposedly, it is worried about the disarray that Kabila`s refusal to stand down from the presidency is creating, mainly encouraging a conflict in their common border in which refugees have poured across into Angola. So, it appears that the previous ally is turning, again, to be an enemy. Such fact, in a time of instability, also in Angola, could create a situation of worrying turmoil in central-western Africa.
