
Résumé L’objet de ce travail est de mettre en évidence la relation qui existe entre l’efficacité financière et l’efficacité sociale des institutions de microfinance au Cameroun. De manière plus concrète, nous cherchons à déterminer si les institutions de microfinance parviennent à atteindre simultanément leurs deux objectifs, social et financier, ou s’il y’a un aspect qui est privilégié. Pour ce faire, la méthode non-paramétrique « Data Envelopment Analysis » combinée avec une analyse des corrélations ont été utilisées sur un échantillon de 28 institutions. Les résultats obtenus permettent de tirer trois principales conclusions. Premièrement, les institutions de microfinance sont faiblement efficaces aussi bien sur le plan social que financier. Pour s’améliorer, ces entités doivent ajuster leur technique de production et leur volume d’activité. Deuxièmement, la relation entre l’efficacité sociale et l’efficacité financière n’est pas univoque, prises individuellement, ces institutions présentent des profils différents en ce qui concernent l’atteinte de leurs objectifs. Troisièmement, en dépit d’un éventuel arbitrage, l’efficacité financière et l’efficacité sociale sont compatibles voire complémentaires. Abstract The aim of this work is to highlight the relationship between the financial and social efficiency of microfinance institutions in Cameroon. More specially, we seek to determine whether microfinance institutions are able to achieve both their social and financial objectives simultaneously, or whether on aspect is favored over the other. For this purpose, the non-parametric method Data Envelopment Analysis combined with correlation ship analysis was used on a sample of 28 institutions. Three main conclusions can be drawn from the results. Firstly, microfinance institutions are not very efficient either socially and financially. To improve these entities, need to adjust their production technique and business volumes. Secondly, the relationship between social and financial efficiency is not univocal, taken individually, these institutions present different profiles in terms of achieving their objectives. Thirdly, despite a possible trade-off, financial efficiency and social efficiency are compatible, even complementary.
