navalpablo/dicom_tool: DICOM Sorting Toolkit

Abstract

Description: The DICOM Sorting Toolkit is a user-friendly tool designed for efficient management and anonymization of DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) files. Developed primarily for neuroimaging research, this tool offers both a graphical user interface (GUI) and command-line functionality to streamline DICOM file processing workflows. Key Features: DICOM file sorting based on metadata Basic and strict anonymization options In-place files transfer syntax decompression Intuitive GUI for easy operation Command-line interface for batch processing Option to skip derived/secondary images and those with burned-in annotations Patient ID replacement using correlation tables This toolkit is particularly useful for researchers and clinicians working with large DICOM datasets, offering efficient data organization and privacy protection capabilities. Usage: The tool is available as a Windows executable (tested on Windows 10 and 11) and as a Python script. The GUI version allows for easy file selection and option configuration, while the command-line version supports more advanced batch processing scenarios. Technical Requirements: For the executable: Windows 10 or 11 For the Python script: Python 3, with additional packages: tqdm, pydicom, and pathvalidate Note: This tool is provided for research purposes and internal use. It has not been validated against DICOM standards, and no guarantees are made regarding its accuracy or reliability. Users should exercise caution and use the tool at their own risk.
