Abstract

Desde hace años, un grupo de profesores de Geometría del Departamento de Ingeniería Gráfica, empezamos a trabajar con el estudio y generación de superficies geométricas para ser construidas en maquetas a escala reducida, usando para ello la potencia de las herramientas CAD-CAM. Pronto nos dimos cuenta del valor que suponía ir más allá del simulacro de la maqueta y llegar al hecho constructivo concreto, produciendo objetos reales a escala 1:1. Un ejercicio de realismo donde se diseñaran y construyeran todas y cada una de las piezas de un objeto arquitectónico, constatando —en el resultado final— la idoneidad de los propios procesos geométricos. En 2014,estas ideas culminaron con el diseño-fabricación-montaje de la primera instalación arquitectónica,The Caterpillar Gallery, un pabellón de madera laminada que recogía en su morfogénesis las propiedades de las intersecciones de las superficies cuádricas. El éxito de este primer pabellón, puso en marcha un pulso creativo y reinterpretativo que ha ido trascendiendo lo puramente geométrico, para tocar otros muchos aspectos del fenómeno arquitectónico, que más adelante comentaremos.
