Abstract

Demencia se define como el deterioro adquirido de las capacidades cognitivas que entorpece la realización satisfactoria de las actividades diarias. Realizamos una revisión que pretende establecer las pautas para el diagnóstico de demencia. Específicamente se analizará la Enfermedad de Alzheimer, ya que es la principal causa de demencia, en especial en personas mayores de 65 años, representando el 60% de los casos. Se revisan los criterios diagnósticos del DSM V y CIE-10, así como los criterios más recientemente establecidos (Dubois y NIA-AA), y el diagnóstico de imagen anatómico y funcional con TC, RM, PET y SPECT cerebrales. Finalmente realizamos una revisión de los biomarcadores más utilizados en LCR y plasma para el diagnóstico precoz de esta enfermedad.
