Riesgo de infarto agudo al miocardio en pacientes con diabetes mellitus tipo 1

Abstract

Desde hace décadas, múltiples estudios se han centrado en evaluar la importancia del riesgo de infarto agudo al miocardio (IAM) en los pacientes con diabetes mellitus debido al problema de salud pública que ambas entidades representan. Aunque la mayoría de los estudios se han enfocado en la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DMT2), con la tendencia reciente al aumento de casos de diabetes mellitus tipo 1 (DMT1), ha incrementado el estudio de la relación entre esta entidad y las enfermedades cardiovasculares. En vista de que la DMT1 difiere de la DMT2 en varios aspectos en cuanto a la fisiopatología, la historia natural y las comorbilidades asociadas, estudios recientes tanto clínicos como epidemiológicos buscan demostrar de manera específica como la DMT1 y el mal control de la misma puede asociarse con un mayor riesgo de cardiopatía isquémica, específicamente; con el IAM. De tal manera que el objetivo de esta revisión consiste en describir los posibles mecanismos subyacentes, así como explorar la evidencia clínica-epidemiológica actual que vincula a la DMT1 con el riesgo de IAM.
