Abstract

Muschampia proto (Ochsenheimer, 1808) Esta especie está distribuida por casi toda la Península, siendo más escasa hacia el norte y hacia el oeste. Existen citas en casi todas las provincias excepto A Coruña, Lugo, Pontevedra y Vizcaya. En Palencia es más frecuente en el sur, con citas más escasas y dispersas en el centro y más ȧn en el norte. La primera cita concreta en territorio palentino corresponde a MANCEÑIDO GONZÁLEZ & GONZÁLEZ ESTÉBANEZ (2010), de un ejemplar capturado en la localidad de Moratinos, a 855 metros de altitud, el nueve de julio del año 2008. Hiberna generalmente como oruga. Tiene una sola generación anual que se dilata en el tiempo desde principios de la primavera hasta finales del verano. Forma colonias de numerosos individuos. Tiene preferencia por los suelos calizos, aunque no es exclusiva de ellos. Frecuenta los prados secos y los claros de encinar. Los machos acuden en gran ṅmero a los bebederos. Sus larvas se alimentan de diversas especies de labiadas, sobre todo del género Phlomis. Se diferencia del resto de los Pyrginae porque carece de los puntos blancos postdiscales de los espacios E4 y E5 del anverso de las alas anteriores. Para separarla de Spialia sertorius (Hoffmannsegg, 1804) hay que contar los puntos blancos de la parte superior de la celda de las alas anteriores, que son cuatro en esta especie y tres en M. proto.
