The European Agroforestry Federation holds bi-annual conferences. The Brno conference at the end of May 2024 was opened by the Ministers of Agriculture and Environment of the Czech Republic. It heard an opening statement from EU Agricultural Commissioner about the growing importance of agroforestry. In the closing session, participants endorsed the following text on the contribution which agroforestry makes to the 6 areas of environmental sustainability in the EU Taxonomy - climate-mitigation, climate-adaptation, pollution, water-resources, circular economy and biodiversity-ecosystems. Also endorsed was EURAF´s target of 10% tree crown cover on all EU croplands and grasslands by 2040, noting that agriculture would remain predominant in these areas: thereby protecting CAP basic payments.
