İslâmiyet Öncesi Türk-Arap İlişkileri

Pre-Islamıc Turkish-Arab Relations
Authors: Akyürek, Yunus;

İslâmiyet Öncesi Türk-Arap İlişkileri

Abstract

The Turks, who had to migrate frequently throughout history for various reasons, could not enter into direct relations with the Arab society of the Jahiliyyah period because they could not overcome the powerful empires in the south-western direction. However, this should not be taken to mean that there is no relationship between the sides. The subject of this research is the interaction process between Turks and Arabs in the pre-Islamic period, its background and the point it reached before Islam. The study, in which the narrative research technique, one of the sub-headings of the qualitative research method, is applied, deals with the quality, dimensions and reflections of the relations that took place in the specified period. It is aimed to better understand post-Islamic relations and to establish them on a solid basis with this. The study concludes that bilateral relations are indirect, one-way and low-profile; they develop according to circumstances and are not continuous. The most prominent reason for this is that the Iranians, who had an ancient civilization, separated these two nations geographically and influenced both sides, especially in terms of trade and culture. Therefore, what is known about the Turks in terms of their physical characteristics, war skills, and heroism was able to be the subject of Jahiliyyah-era Arabic poetry through the Iranians and the Arab Laḫmī dynasty that existed under Sasanian rule around Persian Gulf, and objects such as the Turkish tent entered Arabic culture in this period. There is no data that Turks were influenced by Arab culture. The study also points out some mistakes made in the context of Turkish-Arab relations, such as the claim that 'Ammār b. Yāṣir's mother Sumayyah was a Turk.
