In this article the author does not intend to be a 'prosecutor', 'defender', 'judge', or even 'jury' who decides the 'case' of a great Sufi accused of infidelity, but merely wants to give a somewhat more systematic picture of why and how Syamsuddin as-Sumatrani and his teachings became 'objects of debate' by Islamic scholars and scholars. However, since this presentation is only a short paper, especially as a selekta capita, the description of it is not possible to be presented fully and adequately. Thus, the picture of Shamsuddin in this paper is merely the subject matter, from the biography, the works, the teachings, the criticism, to the defense of his teachings. From such a systematic presentation it is hoped that we can reassess more wisely the existence and teachings of Shamsuddin so that we are not in a hurry to drop the 'verdict' as 'good' or 'bad'.
