Ditunggu: Kehadiran Novel Polifonik

Abstract

The polyphonic novel is a novel that contains many voices, awareness, and ideas; and the voices, consciousness, and ideas present in polyphonic novels do not mutually exclude, not objectify each other, but respect each other, support each other, and together they build a new world, the polyphonic world. The polyphonic world is a world that is colored by a plurality of voices, consciousness, and ideas that are free and meaningful. If observed from decade to decade (from the 1920s to the present) - except around the war of independence and the change of power from the Old Order (Sukarno) to the New Order (Suharto) - in fact the growth of Indonesian novels shows an interesting development. Moreover, in recent years, the publication of literary books (including novels) - as well as the proliferation of young writers and new literary pockets backed by advances in information and communications technology - shows more fertility than in the past previous. It's just that, to this day, polyphonic novels have not yet been discovered. That is why, his presence is very much awaited. Why now we need to wait for the presence of a polyphonic novel? For, it is only through the polyphonic novel that we will be able to enter (feel) into a truly free and democratic world; a world that in today's context can not be found in the real world, but can only be expected from the world of discourse or imagination. Indeed, we can not stay in the real world constantly; and in order for this life to take its full advantage, we need to travel back and forth from the real world to the fictitious world. If in the real world our gestures have their limits, in the fictional world we get the freedom that allows us to cross those boundaries. That is why we need the presence of polyphonic novels.
