One of the world’s largest economies, India has made enormous strides in its economies and social development in the past two decades. But according to a new World Bank Report, India can do much more to leverage its strengths in today’s knowledge-based global economy. The importance of knowledge and information in all the industries cannot be overemphasized at the same time one cannot disagree to its indispensability for the industries included in the service sector. In this new economy, managements have to focus on: Personal creativity, where values alignment becomes important Personal productivity, where mission alignment is critical Knowledge/experience, where professional development is imperative, and Emotional intelligence, where personal development is the path. This research proceeds on the premise that the term knowledge work denotes a certain set of occupations which involve comparatively higher level of cognitive activity than the level engaged in by the industrial/ manual workers and the people engaged in such work are knowledge workers.
