FOTO Fourier Based Textural Ordination

FOTO Fourier Based Textural Ordination

Abstract

Compiled Matlab scripts (from N. Barbier & P. Couteron) for applying textural feature extraction methods FOTO (Fourier Textural Ordination Method) and FotoPad (improved with zero padding and wavelenght ressampling) on a single geotiff image. Requires Windows 64bit and MATLAB Compiler Runtime (MCR, see below). Compiled by Barbier 05/2015v1.2 06/201; 5; Instructions: 10/04/2018 - Function foto.exe is the traditional implementation of the method. It is faster but possibly more sensible to instrumental parameters due to the strong weight of high frequencies. - Function fotoPAD.exe is slower but in part compensates for this issue (speed now improved with parallel computing). In any case, depending on your machine, expect computing times of several minutes for common VHR images (ca. 20 000 pixels sides, for params= 99 99 1 6 1 4, on a six-core CPU @ 2.27 Ghz with 24 Go RAM). Barbier, N., Couteron, P., 2015. Attenuating the bidirectional texture variation of satellite images of tropical forest canopies. Remote Sensing of Environment, 171: 245-260. - ... (or other references from the authors) The present version of Foto.exe was used for all the textural analyses implemented in Bugnicourt et al., 2018, Geomorphology, doi:10.1016/j.geomorph.2018.03.017
