This record describes a survey around the awareness of the FAIR data principles, undertaken in Australia in 2017 by ANDS, Nectar and RDS. ANDS (Australian National Data Service), Nectar (National collaborative tools and resources), and RDS (Research Data Services) are NCRIS facilities. NCRIS is an Australian Federal Government investment in research infrastructure. ANDS(ands.org.au), Nectar(nectar.org.au) and RDS(rds.org.au) have integrated their work in line with proposals laid out in the NCRIS Roadmap (https://docs.education.gov.au/node/43736), early in 2017. The survey was conducted as a Google Form, and analysed in a 12 page report (see Summary of Full Results - attached). Results of the demographics and quantitative responses are shared attached to this record. The qualitative responses are not shared, for reasons of confidentiality. Background (from Summary Report) ANDS/RDS/Nectar undertook a baseline survey to assess level of awareness around FAIR in the research community at eResearch Australasia conference (Oct 2017) and through an online survey. The online survey was closed a few weeks later on 16.11.17. A list of questions is provided (see Are you FAIR aware? Google Form.pdf). There were 249 responses.
1.The FAIR Data Principles stand for Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable, and were drafted at a Lorenz Centre workshop in Leiden, The Netherlands in 2015 (https://www.force11.org/group/fairgroup/fairprinciples). 2.NCRIS is the Australian National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy, a multi-billion dollar investment into Australia's research Infrastructure (https://www.education.gov.au/national-collaborative-research-infrastructure-strategy-ncris). 3.ANDS-Nectar-RDS have a web presence at: https://www.ands-nectar-rds.org.au. ANDS, Nectar and RDS are supported by the Australian Government through the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy program. 4. Are you Fair Aware (Google Form) doc is a pdf version of the Survey Questions. Please append pdf to the file to open as pdf. A replacement file, with properly revised name (to .pdf) is available in Version 2 of this record.
