In response to the need for localized web services, addisportal.com aims to create a comprehensive web portal incorporating three key services: mailing, job searching, and yellow pages. This portal will support English and three local languages—Amharic, Oromifa, and Tigrigna—providing accessible and integrated services to users who may struggle with foreign languages. 1.1 Background The project's impetus is the scarcity of localized online services. By developing addisportal.com, the group aims to bridge the language gap and offer a unified platform where users can access essential services in their native languages. 1.2 Overview of the Problem Currently, efficient systems for mailing, yellow pages, and job search services in local languages are insufficient. This project addresses the lack of integrated and localized online services. 2. Statement of the Problem In a globalized world, providing services in local languages enhances user engagement and satisfaction, promoting the use of IT systems. The major issues include: Mailing services have only partially been localized (only Amharic). Yellow pages are difficult to navigate, limited to business hours, and not in local languages. Job searches face communication barriers and lack of local language support. 3. Objectives 3.1 General Objective Develop an automated web-based system that integrates email, job search, and yellow page services. 3.2 Specific Objectives Design a system that consolidates three services. Enable the system to operate in local languages alongside English. 4. Scope and Limitations Email Service Scope: Text and file attachment services in four languages. Limitations: No spam filtering, address book service, or file attachment feature. Job Search Service Scope: Vacancy announcements in three local languages. Limitations: Does not cover employee placement for posted positions. Yellow Page Service Scope: Directory browsing of service providers in different local languages. Limitations: Limited to services in Addis Ababa. 5. Tools & Methodology Data Collection Analysis of previous projects and similar websites. Interviews. System Development Methodology The Object-Oriented approach is chosen for its benefits like information hiding, modularity, and ease of understanding. It utilizes diagrams such as sequence, use case, collaboration, state chart, activity, class, object, component, and deployment diagrams. Implementation Tools Tools include Rational Rose, Macromedia Dreamweaver, Apache/IIS, Visual Basic 2005, SQL Server, MySQL, and various graphic design software. 6.
