Las sociedades de debate escolar y su aporte al desarrollo de las habilidades socioemocionales: un estudio de caso en Latinoamérica

Abstract

Objetivo. Este artículo de investigación expone los resultados de un estudio centrado en determinar el aporte de las sociedades de debate escolar en el desarrollo de las habilidades socioemocionales en diez instituciones educativas públicas y privadas de cuatro países latinoamericanos. Metodología. Bajo el propósito de operacionalizar este objetivo, la investigación se situó en un enfoque cualitativo y un estudio de caso múltiple para obtener una perspectiva más amplia sobre el objeto de estudio. De esta manera, se aplicaron diversas técnicas e instrumentos con estudiantes, docentes y egresados participantes de las organizaciones focalizadas, en las diferentes fases que implicó el abordaje del diseño seleccionado. Resultados. Entre los principales resultados se destacan que las sociedades de debate son escenarios propicios para el desarrollo de habilidades relacionadas con la asertividad, la autorregulación, la empatía, la escucha activa y el pensamiento crítico; lo que redunda en el cultivo de valores y actitudes desde la promoción del reconocimiento, respeto y responsabilidad hacia los demás. Conclusiones. Desde ahí se concluye que, son espacios pedagógicos que contribuyen a formar ciudadanos activos, responsables y conscientes de sus derechos y deberes; capaces de dialogar, escuchar, persuadir y negociar con otros, reconociendo la diversidad y la pluralidad como fuentes de riqueza y aprendizaje.
