Abstract

Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei Peters 1863 Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei Peters 1863, Monatsb. K. Preuss. Akad. Wiss. Berlin, 1863: 654. Type Locality: "Papantla, Veracruz, Mexico." (Nelson, 1899 b:101). Vernacular Names: Deppe's Squirrel. Subspecies:: Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei subsp. deppei Peters 1863 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei subsp. matagalpae J. A. Allen 1908 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei subsp. miravallensis Harris 1931 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei subsp. negligens Nelson 1898 Subspecies Sciurus (Sciurus) deppei subsp. vivax Nelson 1901 Distribution: Tamaulipas (Mexico) to Costa Rica. Conservation: CITES – Appendix III (Costa Rica); IUCN – Lower Risk (lc). Discussion: Subgenus Sciurus (Hall, 1981:426). Reviewed by Best (1995 c, Mammalian Species No. 505).
