Abstract

Este resumen se centra en analizar un subestudio del Ensayo Clínico Randomizado doble ciego publicado en la revista JAMA Internal Medicine quienes seleccionaron dos grupos de adultos mayores con características similares los dividieron en grupo placebo vs aspirina en bajas dosis (100mg) con el fin de determinar cuál es el efecto de la aspirina sobre las fracturas. Se concluye que el uso de aspirina en dosis bajas no fue significativo en cuanto a la reducción del riesgo de caídas ni al número; pero con mayor gravedad de la caída, generada por los efectos secundarios, en los casos de caídas graves. Sin embargo, no existen estudios extrapolables a toda la población que permitan determinar con seguridad a favor o en contra del uso de aspirina y caídas. This review has its objectives to analyze a double blind sub study called ASPREE; extracted from a Randomized Clinical Trial which was published in the JAMA Internal Medicine Magazine, where they selected two groups of elderly patients and divided them into placebo group vs low dose aspirin (100mg) to determine what is the effect of aspirin in fractures. Although there was no significance in the difference of risk of falls or the number, there was a significant difference in the severity of fall in the aspirin group. Nowadays, there is no clinical study with strong evidence that shows that aspirin may reduce or increase the risk of falls.
