This video shows how a forest plot can be automatically reconstructed from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) data. Each of the trees are identified in the data and reconstructed as cylinder models. The resulting models can be used to derive valuable tree and forest information. The animation is based on real TLS data collected by Eric Casella working at Forest Research (UK) in April 2012 (http://www.forestry.gov.uk/forestresearch). QTVR visualization of the point clouds are available at ResearchGate (http://www.researchgate.net/publication/267327584_Terrestrial_laser_scanner_and_forest_science__Point-cloud_raw_data_visualized). For details of the reconstruction process, see the group homepage or, e.g., the open access journal article "Fast Automatic Precision Tree Models from Terrestrial Laser Scanner Data" (http://www.mdpi.com/2072-4292/5/2/491). This animation was produced by the Inverse Problems research group in the Department of Mathematics at Tampere University of Technology (http://math.tut.fi/inversegroup). Animation created using Blender (http://www.blender.org). | selected citations These citations are derived from selected sources. This is an alternative to the "Influence" indicator, which also reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | 0 | |
| popularity This indicator reflects the "current" impact/attention (the "hype") of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network. | Average | |
| influence This indicator reflects the overall/total impact of an article in the research community at large, based on the underlying citation network (diachronically). | Average | |
| impulse This indicator reflects the initial momentum of an article directly after its publication, based on the underlying citation network. | Average |
